LÁZADÁS ÉS FEGYVEREK
A CIGÁNYSÁG EMANCIPÁCIÓJÁNAK ÚTJÁN
A szlovák kormány legutóbbi gazdasági intézkedéseit
követően zavargások törtek ki a kelet-szlovákiai lakosság körében. A
felfordulás legismertebb eleme az élelmiszer üzletek fosztogatása volt. A sajtóban
éhséglázadásról beszéltek.
A „rendbontó” akciók megfékezésére a
kormány bevetette a rendőrséget és a katonaságot. A fegyveres szervek fellépése
nemegyszer durva atrocitásba torkollott. Hírek szerint a közbeavatkozásra egyes
esetekben csupán elrettentő erődemonstráció céljából került sor.
A zavargások nyomán a szlovák kormány
tárcaközi intervenciót kezdeményezett a romák sanyarú helyzetének enyhítésére.
A világszerte figyelmet
keltő akciót több szlovákiai roma szervezet is támogatta. A Roma Polgárjogi
Elemezzük a kialakult

Rebellion and Arms
Gypsies on the road of
emancipation
Following the latest economical orders of the
Slovakian Government, disturbances broke out among the Gypsies
of Eastern Slovakia. The most well-known element of the
upheaval was the looting of
food-stores. The media also talked about
hunger strike.
To stop the disturbing
actions, the government put the police and
the army into action. More than once did
the intervention of armed units
end up in
rough atrocities. According to the
news, intervention often happened in order to
deter by demonstrating power.
As a result of
the disturbances, Slovakian Government initiated a inter-departmental
intervention to ease the Roma’s
miserable situation.
The actions drawing the attention of
many worldwide, were supported by several Roma organizations. According to views of
the Roma Initiation of Civil Rights (RIS), Roma communities lost control over
the protesting actions, which lead to undesirable results.
Through our round-table
discussion we are attaining to
get an overall picture of the
inherence of this difficult issue. We would
scrutinize the circles of those
who responsible for the emergence
of this situation
and of those
who co-operated in it. The role
of the Government,
of the Roma organizations and of the EU
is an especially important question. Finally, we would
try to find
an answer to the question,
what are the lessons of
the events in Slovakia to
Hungary, where creating equal opportunities and emancipation of the Gypsy
minority has been an unsolved issue
of the total
society and a humanitarian and moral demand.
